On Jan. 28, 1986, seven astronauts "slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God." America's space program was never the same. Check out our latest Retro Report documentary about the space shuttle Challenger and Columbia accidents, and how organizational dysfunction contributed to the catastrophes.
Here's what we're up to:
A short, sweet spot in the SF Green Film Festival

Uncovering street art in SF
We're kicking off a new series on the creative process in its many forms, and for our first installment, the incredibly talented street art team Alynn-Mags let us tag along as they executed a new piece. Paint was spilled, cameras were spattered, and it was all good.
NPR takes a look at "Open Secret"
Have a listen to "Weekend Edition's" Rachel Martin interviewing director Steve Lickteig about "Open Secret" in advance of its US broadcast premiere.
The US broadcast premiere of "Open Secret" is here
We're pleased to announce that "Open Secret," a film Bret edited about the not-so-secret story of director Steve Lickteig's adoption, will premiere on Al Jazeera America tonight at 9PM EST.
Diving into the Delta
Despite living so close for so many years, we've never had a chance to explore the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, a maze of tidal waterways and agricultural islands that would be underwater if they weren't protected by earthen levees. Todd recently had a chance to spend some time out on the islands and on the water, and came away with this short piece for Greenpeace's "Postcards from Climate Change" series.
Freeing Willy
You probably remember the movie "Free Willy" ... but do you remember Keiko ... the whale who played Willy? We were just a few years too old to fully appreciate the phenomenon that was "Free Willy," but let's just say he had a complicated life that was every bit as dramatic as the film in which he starred. You can learn all about it in Bret's latest edit for Retro Report on the New York Times homepage this morning.
One Dream
We were very fortunate to have been able to work on TIME's "One Dream" package commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. It launched today, so have a look if you can.
